Watch Out World, Here He Comes!

Caleb started crawling last week, but since he was a little shaky we hadn't been able to record it. Last night we finally got the little video above! He crawls the farthest when he's going towards his stroller car. He just loves that thing! I guess it's time to put the baby gates up... Looks like we'll be really busy now, but I am so excited that Caleb reached this huge milestone! While we're discussing milestones, you may be wondering where we're at so far. According to What To Expect, at eight/nine month Caleb should be doing the following:

Month 8
Most babies should be able to . . .

Sit without support    (Yep, we're there)
Make razzing sounds   (Yep)
Imitate sound   (Yep)
Work at getting a toy that is out of reach  (Yep)
Feed self a cracker or finger food  (Yep)
Start crawling  (Just last week!)
Pass object from one hand to the other  (Yep)
Respond to own name (Yep)
Mouth and chew on objects  (Lots of it!)
Reach for spoon when being fed  (Yep)
Turn away when finished eating  (Um, that doesn't really happen...I think he could eat until he popped!)
Say mama and dada to both parents (usually isn’t specific)  (Yep, started last week!)

Some babies will probably be able to . . .

Start crawling or lunging forward (Yep)
Get upset if you take a toy away  (Yes)
Play peek-a-boo  (He plays with a blanket!)
Distinguish emotions by your tone of voice (Yep)
Pass object from one hand to the other  (Yep)
Separation and stranger anxiety may begin  (Oh, yeah....He wants Mommy!)
Stand while holding on to something  (Yep)
Pull up to standing position from sitting  (Yep)
Walk holding onto furniture (Barely)
Clap and bang objects together  (Yep)

Some babies could possibly be able to . . .

Stand while holding onto something (Yep)
Wave goodbye (Not yet, but we're trying)
Clap hands (He's kinda doing this...)
Bang objects together (Yep)
Say mama or dada  (Yep)
Use thumb and finger pincer grasp to pick things up (Yes)
Stand alone momentarily (Nope! We have no balance yet!)
Understand the word no (but usually doesn’t obey it) (No kidding! He just grins at us!)

Month 9

Most babies should be able to . . .

Stand while holding on to something (Yep)
Look for dropped objects (Yes)
Pull up to standing position from sitting  (Yep)
Clap and bang objects together  (Yep)
Combine syllables into word like sounds  (Maybe once or twice)
Separation and stranger anxiety may begin (Already there...)

Some babies will probably be able to . . .

Use thumb and finger pincer grasp to pick things up (Yep)
Walk holding onto furniture (Just a little)
Stand alone momentarily (Nope)
Wave goodbye  (Nope)
Drop object and then looks for them  (Yep)
Understand the word no (but usually doesn’t obey it) (Yep)
Begin to identify self in a mirror (Not yet)

Some babies could possibly be able to . . .

Say mama and dada to the right parents (We're working on it. He says Mama correctly, but working on Dada)
Play patty cake (Nope)
Play ball (We're trying)
Drink from a cup independently (He can use his own sippy cup now)
Stand alone well  (Nope)
Say one word other than mama or dada  (He says "Giggy" and "Hi!")

So here's the daredevil side of my son:

He cried for about two seconds after I picked him up and forgot all about it!
Since he worked so hard to crawl, I did take him for a ride!

He was so worn out from playing and crawling last night!
