For New Moms

Megan over at In This Wonderful Life is having precious twins!!! It's time for her to register and I wanted to share the things we loved most during Caleb's infancy....

Go ahead and get this!
It's the Baby Sense Infant Movement Monitor.
Sleep is precious when you're a new mom, so rest assured that your angel is truly safe while you catch a few zzz's!
The alarm is certainly loud enough to wake you up. It did sound off one night when Caleb was itty bitty. He had snuggled up to the crib bumper one night. The alarm went off and I ran into his room. When I picked him up, he took a big breath of air. Do I know for certain he had quit breathing and this alarm saved his life? No. Could have been a false alarm, but why take the chance...You know?
I would have been a nervous wreck without this. I wouldn't have slept well...
Megan, you're having two babies. You're going to be worrying enough as it is! Save yourself from worrying about SIDS. If there's one thing I recommend out of it all, this is it.

Second, electric boogie suckers are nothing short of awesome!!!

It distracts with cute music while you can get in there and get the boogies. Seriously, this is the only one that worked for Caleb. Don't bother with the old style ones. They do nothing for you. This sucks serious snot. :)

Diapers are going to be a personal preference. Luvs stopped leaks better than Pampers or Huggies. I think it really depends upon your child's body shape. Everyone we got advice from said to never try generic. In a diaper shortage emergency one weekend, we picked up the Toys R Us brand and they worked great. They have NEVER leaked and we have used them for month now....Love them!!!

When bottle shopping, get something simple. We tried the more expensive bottles and they leaked or were very difficult to clean. Waste of time and energy. Caleb hated them! Above all, make sure all of them match. When you're tired or in a hurry, you can forget about matching up the right nipple, lid, and bottle for twenty different kinds! While you're at it, go ahead and buy a dishwasher container for the bottle rings and nipples. Saves a ton of time!!! Go ahead and buy different flow nipples now. We bought the slow flow and figured we'd pick up new ones as Caleb grew. The boy ate so fast from the beginning that slow flow quite frankly just mad him screaming mad! Every baby is different so have the options!

As far as toys go, we loved the jump, jump and bouncer....
Lived in them practically for the first several months....

Caleb also sleeps very well with a sound machine. You can pick them up fairly cheap and they make a huge difference. We got one that has a rotating light scene thing and he likes it better now. If he wakes up in the middle of the night, he realizes where he is and goes back to sleep.

The biggest thing we learned was to not buy so many tiny baby clothes. Caleb literally didn't wear everything we bought. He grew quick! Also because he grew so quickly and we had stocked up on Newborn and Size 1 diapers, we found ourselves with extras. Luckily we donated them to Zoey. I would stock up on Size 3's because hardly anyone buys those for you as a shower gift and they stay in that size the longest! Stock up on BATTERIES! Every toy had the darn things. You don't want to be the one running to the store at 3 am to buy extra batteries for the swing because that's the only place your kiddo sleeps. Seriously, I've been there....

18 Month Check Up

This post is long overdue! We've been a little busy....

I am so thankful Daddy went with us to his appointment! Ryan, Caleb and I went to visit Dr. B on Thursday morning for his 18 month well baby check. Our cutie is 35" tall (just one inch shy of 3 feet)! He also weighs 29.2 pounds. Big Boy! Caleb is in the 95th percentile for his height. Ryan asked Dr. B how Caleb was measuring up and he responded casually, "Caleb is measuring the size of a 26 month old...."

WHAT?!?!? No wonder my back is killing me all of the time!

Obviously we've got to make some bigger changes to how we handle Caleb around the house... We've been letting him walk on his own a lot more since my back problems. I have felt like Caleb is growing faster than my body can adjust and keep up!

Caleb has quite the vocabulary now.....
He has recently learned how to say no (yeah, imagine our delight), baby, truck, boat, hi, sorry (sounds like so-dee), doggie, puppy, yeah, see this, and Zoey (sounds like
zo-zo)! He also is going to be the singer in the family. He's hilarious! He sings the words "baby, baby, baby" over and over with a Southern accent. He's too cute!

Caleb can throw a ball, kick a ball, walk up and down stairs, color, and climb up and down on the couch. His new favorite ability is climbing into a kitchen chair and then onto the table. He luckily hasn't figured out how to jump off yet.

He's still doing really well with sleeping in his toddler bed. He usually plays in his room for a bit before finally climbing into bed and falling asleep. I don't think we're quite ready to tackle potty training. He's very interested in the whole bathroom concept. I will ask him if he needs a new diaper and he'll point down and say "ooooo"! He hasn't started signaling before he does it though. Caleb's has woke up from a few naps dry, but not as often as I think he should to try to potty train.

We ended up at the doctor's office again this morning. Poor baby got a huge splinter in his foot! It was almost an inch long. Dr. B had to cut it out and we start antibiotics today. It's just preventative measure, but we're going to watch it and keep it clean for several days. Caleb was really brave and didn't do too bad with it. It breaks my heart to see him hurt, but he's a trooper!

Memorial Day in the Eyes of Zoey and Caleb

While Ryan and I worked, Caleb spent the day with Granny, Aunt Tara, and Zoey....

Caleb and Zoey had a huge day!

They had a blast together!
I can tell they're going to be great friends one day...

I just love her smile!

Playing in the pool...
Caleb and Mommy got in the hot tub...
He wasn't quite sure of this.
He was fine as long as his feet were touching us. He doesn't like to just float right now.

Miss Zoey joined us...
Tara has her hands full with her! She loves trying to stick her head under water!

Granny and Zoey swinging...

I know Granny and Tara were exhausted after keeping up with them all day!

Water Baby

Please excuse me for posting entirely too many pictures today, but I have to give amazing credit to my awesome camera and cute kid.....

Granny got Caleb and Zoey water tables. We set his up on Saturday and turned him loose....

Daddy showed Caleb how to make the wheels turn....

I just love this little face!
Daddy could hardly water my flowers!

These two had so much fun with that water hose!

We then decided that it was time to go out on our boat.

He was so excited!!!
Caleb hadn't been on a boat ride since he was about six months old.
This was his reaction to Daddy starting the engine:

It was so pitiful, but we couldn't help laughing!
As quickly as it started, it was over.
Once he realized everything was fine, he got excited again...

Picture time with Mommy....

Checking things out....

Silly Daddy

He loved it so much he fell asleep.
After riding for a bit, he couldn't hold his eyes open any longer!
Believe it or not, this kid gets pretty heavy after a while!
I don't get this opportunity much, so I grabbed at the chance!

We got the opportunity to see a gorgeous sunset....

God painted the skies last night with beautiful colors and the camera caught the moment perfectly.
Some little guy didn't like sharing Mommy's kisses....
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!!!!!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cheesecake

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cheesecake. It is as wonderful as it sounds! My stand mixer made the cheesecake batter really fluffy. This has got to be one of the easiest desserts to make ever. It has a chocolate chip cookie crust and is really too pretty to even cut into!

Ryan's Comment: "You are NOT taking that to work! I want it..."

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cheesecake

Serves 15 to 20

3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened

3 eggs

3/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 (16.5-ounce) rolls refrigerator chocolate chip cookie dough

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a large bowl, beat together cream cheese, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until well mixed; set aside.

Slice cookie dough rolls into 1/3-inch slices. Arrange slices from one roll over bottom of a greased 9" x 13" baking dish; press together until there are no holes in dough.

Spoon cream cheese mixture evenly over dough; top with remaining slices of cookie dough.

Bake 45 to 50 minutes, or until golden and center is slightly firm. Remove from oven, let cool then refrigerate. Slice when well chilled.

SERVING TIP: Serve the cheesecake plain, with chocolate or fudge sauce, or whipped topping – whatever is your favorite.

Banana Nut Bread - Super Easy

Want a recipe for the best banana nut bread known to man? Try out Paula Deen's banana bread recipe and just add a handful of nuts. It's so moist and flavored perfectly. Maybe try adding a handful of raisins if you're feeling adventurous! Ha!
I'll tell you how good it was: Hubby and Wild Child ate it so fast that I didn't have a chance to get a picture....

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature

1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 ripe bananas, mashed

Preheat the oven to 350. Grease a 9x5 loaf pan. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugar; mix well. Add the salt, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking soda, baking powder and bananas. Mix well. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50 minutes.

Seriously, this is the easiest baking recipe ever. Unless you measure wrong or forget it's in the oven, it's a no brainer.

Weekend Recap

Remember that the Stampin' Up Giveaway ends today! I'll do the drawing tonight, so you've got a few more hours to enter! Good luck!

We had a very busy weekend. On Friday, we all loaded up and went to Tellico. When we got there, Granny had Caleb a new toy to play on...He loved it!

It's a good thing we have this golf cart up there.
Caleb is so content riding on it everywhere we go!
With all of the storms and tornadoes that have gone on around us, Ryan and I have been so fortunate to not have any storm damage to the camper. There's tons of trees around it and we worry every time there's ugly weather. I sent pictures to my insurance agent of all the additions we've done to it. I realized this weekend that I didn't have great pictures. Well, I certainly do now....

Our home away from home....

I just realized we've got a ton of firewood up there and at the house. I told you all that my hubby was obsessed with the chain saw....

There's the tour....
On Sunday, Caleb and I spent the day together. It's rare that we get this opportunity, but I really enjoyed it.
We missed church because Caleb just wasn't feeling 100%.
Don't let that fool you though!
We spent the day cleaning and he really wanted to help.
He is super obsessed with the vacuum (well, he is my kid) and wanted to push it the whole time.
After about an hour of all that, I finally got the floor vacuumed!
Should have been a fifteen minute job, but that's okay.
When Caleb finally laid down for a long nap, I morphed into Super Mommy.
I mowed the yard, scrubbed the kitchen and bathroom floors (on my hands and knees), dusted all of the furniture, did three loads of laundry, and made an awesome dinner.
Seriously....turkey, dressing, green beans, cranberry sauce, and homemade banana nut bread.
I was on a roll.

By the time Ryan got home, the house sparkled and smelled like I'd slaved away at dinner for hours (um, I kinda did). And he breaks the bad news to me:
My mommy mobile has some issues.
My VSA light came on, the SUV wouldn't shift into drive, and he had to override it with......A SCREWDRIVER! Seriously.
It's driveable, but going into the shop as we speak.
Luckily it's under warranty!
As exhausted as I was, I went out and cleaned it from top to bottom last night.
It's as squeaky clean as the house now.
I heard something a while back and it always makes me think....
If a car mechanic works on your vehicle and it looks like you take great care of it, they will put forth more effort to care for it as well. They are naturally more aware of what they are doing.
We'll see.....
I was surprised to see just how messy my toddler is.
I don't know what he does in the back seat, but it literally looked like a tornado moved through it.
Toys and goldfish crackers were EVERYWHERE!
He must get that from his Daddy....
