Right now I am right in the middle of a huge plateau. I'm honestly lucky to lose a pound a month right now. It's absolutely driving me crazy, but I realize that I'm already two third's of the way to my goal. It's reasonable to slow down the closer you get to your goal. Your body begins adjusting to the new way of life and that's when it's time to shake things up a bit. Try a different workout, increase the intensity or duration of your workouts, or adjust more of your eat habits.
It's easy to get frustrated or depressed when you don't see progress for a bit. While you're changing things up and trying to break the plateau, why not help yourself cope with the aggravation of it all?
- Dress to impress! Go ahead and wear outfits that show your progress. It will make you feel more confident and remind yourself that you are actually looking better. When you have an all day reminder of what you're working for, it helps keep you on track.
- Put on your make up. You've made progress and you're looking so much better. I feel my most confident and prettiest when I have my make up on.
- Learn how to take a compliment about the great changes you've made. (This is secretly my toughest part. People make comments about how much better I look now. It's hard to know how to respond when you're feeling frustrated about a plateau.) Compliments can be your greatest motivation to keep going!
- Let your close friends and family know you could use some encouragement and support. When you have people cheering you on, it's even harder to give up!
When you break your plateau, treat yourself to a new outfit or maybe a manicure. Celebrate the small achievements while you're trying to reach your overall goal.
