31 Days to A Better You - Day 8

I believe in making smaller changes that really add up to big progress. It's sometimes overwhelming to start trying to change habits. Many people will start out eating salads and working out every day, but a week into it they're burnt out and give up. So let's try making little changes throughout the journey and see what we can come up with. 

When I fix dinner it's tempting to eat everything just like my boys. I hate feeling deprived of some of my favorite foods and I think it leads me to overeating them when I have an off day. To keep myself from feeling that way, I have made one change that has cut a bunch of calories....

When I put food on our plates, I use a smaller plate. Seriously, it's that simple. I use a large plate for my husband and my plate is much smaller. By the end of the meal, I feel just as full as I did when I ate from a larger plate. Somehow it just messes with your mind. Your mind is tricked into eating less.

My smaller plate is about the size of Caleb's kid sized one to give you some sort of an idea. It's plenty of food and I end up not feeling deprived at all. The first couple of times I did it, my husband looked at me like I was insane. Now that he sees what a difference it has made in my success, he doesn't think twice about it anymore. 



  1. Another trick is to lay your fork down after each bite and take a sip of water. It takes longer to eat your meal and you feel full sooner : )
