Pizza Subs

I have been craving pizza like nobody's business. Not just any greasy pizza. I'm talking homemade, piled high with toppings and smothered in cheese. From time to time I will make a big pizza from scratch. We are super busy at work this week so there was no way I had the time or energy to pull off that idea.

I decided to try something new instead.
I grabbed some sub bread from the store and cut off the tops. I made little bread bowls out of them by scooping out the centers. I preheated my oven to 350 degrees while I prepped the pizza subs.

You can save that bread for fresh breadcrumbs later. I just froze mine.

I lined the bottom of my bread with pepperonis and shredded mozzarella cheese.

I scrambled one pound of hamburger meat. When it was done, I added about 3/4 of a cup of pizza sauce and let it cook together. Then I put the mixture on top of the pepperonis.

For good measure, I added some extra pepperonis to my hubby's and black olives to mine and Caleb's.

I covered it with shredded mozzarella cheese and baked it in the oven for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

It was so amazingly good!

My two guys left nothing behind with these.

One sub is around 600 calories, so it doesn't totally mess up your diet efforts. It's much better than chowing down on any type of delivery pizza!

  1. Since pizza is my husbands favorite comfort food, he'll be glad I found this recipe at your wonderful blog! Thank you for sharing it!

  2. These look good. I pinned them to try later.
