I'm only 1/3 of the way through the challenge and I am seeing some results already. I have to admit that I've never committed myself to working this hard physically and I am seeing definite progress.
Only ten days in, I have lost one whole inch from my waist, one and a half from my "pooch" and two whole inches from my hips! Heck yeah!
What you cannot see is that I can actually feel stomach muscle. Um, hello, I have never felt my core muscles before. Didn't know I had so many!
I can also notice more definition in my arms too. I admit that I have no upper body strength. My legs have always been where my power is. I can see how Insanity is finally bringing me some strength to my arms and shoulders. Finally!
I had such an overwhelming number of emails from so many women about the holiday challenge. So many sweet, precious ladies shared their personal stories with me. Everyone looking for one thing ... hope.
My heart has ached for those ladies. They know my struggles because they're living them too. They have seen deep inside my heart to the ugly places because they've been there themselves. But there's also something else we all have in common... A desire to hold onto the hope for change. A deep yearning to have something better out of life because the weight problem is truly a personal form of Hell for us.
It is now my heart's deepest desire and my own need to help in any way I can. Emily was wonderful enough to provide the opportunity for me to take the next step to helping others. Our first challenge group has some very special and quite amazing women in it. I am so happy that they feel comfortable enough to share their everyday struggles with us and have shown us parts of their lives.
Here's what one of our beautiful ladies, Alison, has experienced so far this month:
"In January of 2013 I found myself at an all time high weight, 202 pounds to be exact. I will remember stepping on that scale and seeing that number for the rest of my life. It was a morning, I hadn’t weighed myself in a while I was off of work for the day stepped on the scale before getting in the shower. 202 popped up and I completely lost it. Cancelled all of the things I had planned for my day off, didn’t even take a shower put on the ugliest of sweatshirts and sweatpants and crawled back into bed where I cried and cried, and then cried some more. It wasn’t until later in the evening that I finally decided that I was going to quit feeling sorry for myself, because really what did that accomplish? Started researching diets, weight loss plans, meal plans, etc had a game plan and was ready to hit it full force “ ”. I was going to start …
Little background, I was always fit and active in high school I was a cheerleader which forced me into the gym and weight room 6 days a week. Then came high school graduation and moving away from home for the first time, I managed to stay active through beauty school but then I started a real job working in a salon which kicked my butt working a crazy schedule mixed with even crazier hours and it lead me to horrible eating habits and never making it to the gym. And slowly the weight came on, and there were times during that 5 year period where I would try a diet and never stick to it. I am a good one that buys into just about anything and everything that sounds good. I’d say “I’m starting ____” , and I’d eat all those bad food your are not supposed to and that I wasn’t going to allow myself to have on whichever diet I was trying at the time. Well they usually only lasted a week or two and then I would cave have what I wasn’t supposed to and it would spiral out of control again.
I am going to be marring my best friend in a little over three months, and was “yo-yoing” again and after spending a weekend with two of my best friends had that “ah ha” moment. Decided I need a lifestyle change, and not a diet. I started researching this idea of a life style change and found Wendy’s blog, got in as a party of her Holiday Ready Challenge and really kicked up the change to my lifestyle. I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy the end of April 2013 and wasn’t going to allow myself to just eat potato chips and drink “fancy” coffee and coke after coke.
Since the Holiday Ready Challenge …
I’ve lost a total of 6.9 pounds since September, half of that was during the beginning of the Holiday Ready challenge. The Holiday Ready challenge is full of amazing women who have encouraged me to push myself that little extra I might not of done on my own, it’s kept me accountable and I know that when I do fall off a little they are going to be there to tell me that it isn’t the end of the world and that one miss step doesn’t need to ruin everything to get up and try to do better the next day.
My goal for this was to have my wedding dress need to be taken in, and I will be ecstatic if I have to pay to have it altered to fit a smaller me. I’ve lost some weight, lost about a half inch all over, learned some new/better eating habits, I’m learning to make better choices and I’m learning a lot about myself.
I’m learning it’s “ok” to “cheat”, but in moderation and only every once in a while – like I still have our traditional morning coffee date with my fiancé only now, I have a small vs the large I was having. I’ve also learned that sharing my story and what the scale says or what pant size I have hanging in the closet is what is motivating me because now I’m working hard to make those numbers smaller and I can share in the victory with my new found friends who “get it”!
I’ve been given the confidence to share where I am and what my “stats are”.. Right now my scale is at 187.2 I’m currently wearing a size 14 maybe a size 12 here or there and I’ve gone from a size extra large to a large!!!!
I am hopeful that in a month when I go to try my wedding dress on again it is going to be on the bigger side – I ordered a size 16.
I am also running my first ever “race” – I signed up to do our local Gobble Gate on the morning of Thanksgiving! I’ve started the couch to 5k program and am well on my way… running has allowed me to feel stronger and empowered and someone told me running is all mental a lot of times your head tells to you quit long before your body is ready to… The group has also given me the push I needed to try Ms. Jillian Michael’s out as well.
Here is to the last three weeks of the challenge and getting to the next level!!"
Emily and I are going to coach ten amazing people during the month of November!
This will be my second time coaching some of you along and I am so thankful to be able to share this with you! We are keeping the group small so that we can help you as much as possible. Emily and I will be here for you every step of the way and you will see progress.
Why should I coach you?
I have spent the last two years transforming my body. I have lost over 76 pounds in a healthy, normal way. I know what it takes to make it work long term. I have put in a lot of time, effort, sweat, and tears into figuring out what works and what doesn't. I've never lost weight easily, but I've figured out how to do it. I don't promote extreme starvation or eating junk. I can show you how to live life to the fullest while taking care of your body. I work 50+ hours a week and keep a household running while raising a very active almost four year old. If I can lose weight, take care of my body, and transform my life....anyone can.
But I can show you how!
You don't have to go through the trial and error process that I did.
What do you have to do to join us?
You must purchase a bag of Shakeology through Emily (her website is here!) You will get a bag and our coaching/motivation for the month! You have exclusive access to our Facebook challenge group and you have access to both of us!
At the beginning of the challenge we will all weigh ourselves and take measurements! It is up to you if you want to share those numbers with the group or on your blog, but you must email them to me or Emily. It is a way for us to gauge our progress!
We will have a Facebook group that you will need to check into daily, 'grading' ourselves on if we drank the shake, ate well, got in 30 minutes of exercise and if we are drinking enough water. This group is going to give us accountability. This can also be a place to share recipes, workouts, etc!
This is a great way for us to challenge ourselves for the month of November!
