Construction Party

Our friends and family gathered this weekend to celebrate Caleb's fourth birthday. We rented the play area at our church so that we could just turn all of the kids loose to play. It's so much easier and tons of fun for all of the kids.

Caleb is absolutely all boy and is obsessed with bulldozers, CAT's, and steamrollers. We all pretty much knew what the theme would be this year!

I made his cake. I made two 13 x 9 layers of chocolate cake and topped it with chocolate icing.

Then I traced out a "4" in the icing and carefully filled in the lines with crushed Oreos.

Ryan and I added the construction trucks and it was just too cute!

We kept everything simple so that we could all focus on the kids playing.

Ryan and I joked that this was potentially one of the healthiest kid birthday parties ever.

We had a veggie tray, fruit salad, homemade Chex mix with gluten free Chex, M & M's and donuts.

Caleb actually requested sugar-free cake, but I wasn't going to take it that far!

The worst parts were the donuts, cake, and M & M's.

My special birthday boy!
I can't believe he's getting so big.

Caleb and his friends opened gifts and it was so funny to watch them all get excited!

He helped sing Happy Birthday to himself.

I think one of my favorite pictures from the day was of the four of us.

We had goodie bags and coloring books for all of the kids to take home.

  1. WTH?! NO comments?!! Well, I think this is a GRAND idea & w/ your Blessing I will use this for my Lil Gran who will be 4 next Sept. He LOVES tractors & construction equipment also. That cake is SO cute & I LOVE the loader digging into the bottom corner!!! How creative to use the ground cookies for dirt on top!! I am making him a hoodie & found a packet @ Walmart w/ iron on tractors to embroider! The hoodie will be Green & Yellow as in John Deere colors. I can hardly wait til it is finished!! I will try to remember to send you a pic when I am finished. Thanks for the inspiration!! kweenbee_612@yahoo.com

  4. That is quite the play area at the church! We just have a "nursery" which is a regular room that they bring toys into for the under 18 month crowd. I'm SO bad a birthday parties for my boys, it's just not something I get into. They only get a couple "friend" parties. My poor baby (will turn 8 in December) hasn't had one yet (just family parties). It's just always so busy and crazy! It was actually MY birthday yesterday too!
