Eating Clean....Here We Go Again

I get asked a lot about my clean eating. So many of you are looking for quick, reasonable recipes to fix for your families without sacrificing flavor and a lot of money. I totally get it! I'm not an expert or even half way there, but I do understand the need to provide better food for our families.

I've mentioned in the past that there are several degrees of clean eating. What I consider "clean" may be a little different than you. That's okay! We'll just meet in the middle or something like that.

When I first started sharing my recipes, I'd have one or two people completely knock what I was doing. I admit that it got to me. I know it's silly, but it's the main reason I got quiet.

Then something kinda clicked for me....

One...I understand I'm not perfect at it, but then again I never claimed to be. Two....I realize I cannot please everyone. My ideas of healthy will vary from yours. Again, totally okay. We all get to choose what we're personally okay with. If you don't like an idea, just wait for the next one to roll around.

So many of you have reached out via email asking for more, so I'm going to do my best!

Things have been hectic around our house, so I wanted to keep things quick and simple. Prepping and planning is key for us right now if we want to eat healthy and save money.

I'm a die hard Aldi shopper through and through. Imagine my totally happiness to stumble upon some new finds there this week!

Reasonably priced organic vegetable and beef stocks, whole wheat pastas (better variety of sizes and shapes), and amazing deals as always on my produce. Pure happiness!

If you're new around here, you must understand....

  • I have a long standing, serious love affair with Aldi.
  • My husband and I have both compared their products to competitors and prefer the taste, value, and quality of Aldi products.
  • Locally our grocery store choices aren't so hot, so I do the best I can with what I have.
  • I eat clean at least 80% of the time. I still want to thoroughly enjoy the life I have and I don't stress over perfection.
  • If I can pronounce an ingredient and would use it in a recipe, I'll eat it.
I've had quite a few requests for shopping lists to go along with weekly meal plans and recipes. Y'all sure know how to make a girl work! I'm actually thrilled that you told me what you needed. I don't mind doing that at all. This is all still a learning process for me, so if you have any suggestions or requests email or comment in the posts. Sound good?

Here's what we're going to do: I'm working on a post for this week. I'm sharing my meals, shopping list, and recipes. I've got our house torn completely apart right now working on a project, so bear with me a bit!

  2. I have always wondered if Aldi's food was actually good. I may have to make a visit. :)

Not that you DO follow my blog, but if you did (Stewart Street) then you will need to refollow. Google screwed up my renewal and it basically became impossible for me to keep www.stewartstreetblog.com without purchasing for $69....so my new blog address is lifeaccordingtotrista.com and you can follow on Bloglovin here. http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/11553579.

    Happy Almost Friday!

  6. I basically eat clean as well but get bashed for some less than perfect choices at times. I understand how you feel! I too am maintaining a large weight loss for years now and this way of eating just works for me. You keep on doing what's best for you!

I love Aldi's so much! I also really like Trader Joe's even though it's more expensive. I've heard they are owned by the same family.

  7. HA! I know exactly what you mean. I'm so self conscious about sharing what I eat! I just know the peanut gallery will chime in with how I'm ruining my life because I ate a Lean Cuisine. Thanks for linking up. ;)

  8. Someone always feels the need to bash others on blogs and in real life, so please continue to take it with a grain of salt. I stumbled upon your blog via pinterest and love what you have here about clean eating. I've heard finding perfection takes a lifetime only to die without every finding it, so let those who want to bash live in their complicated search, while we live and enjoy life! Just wanted to say how glad I am to see someone else who loves aldis as much as I do. I have been an avid shopper there for years and am so glad of the selection continuously being added, especially the organic stuff. I've switched from soy to almond milk and theirs is wonderful and so much cheaper. I'm very lucky to have a large market here that sells cheap quality meats and veggies, but aldis is my go to for everything else. I even LOVE their off brand moisturizer more than I do my $30+ one from Sephora lol. They're just a great company. I look forward to keeping up with your blog and your healthy living tips and experiences!

  9. The last couple of days I have been doing some research on eating clean and came across your blog today. Let me start off by saying, I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!! I have a family of seven with several picky eaters, my husband being the pickiest!!! In his defense he tells me to make whatever I want and if he doesn't want to eat it he will make something else for himself.

I have been struggling with meal planning and eating healthy for a very long time. I would rather just go out to a fast food place and eat junk all day long. I have decided to make a change because I am the heaviest I have ever been.

Anyway, I luckily have an Aldi's about a half hour away that I could start shopping at. However, my husband is kind of hesitant about buying any meat products from there....What are your thoughts about their meat products?

    Thanks!

    1. I have eaten them regularly for over a year. I think their quality is much better than any competitor in our area. We love the corn beef, chicken, and mussels. I've not been disappointed with anything I've tried from there. I think it tastes fresher and keeps better than anywhere else. Just give it a try and I don't think you'll be disappointed at all!
