This is our first year playing football. It has completely consumed my boys this week! Ryan and Caleb eat, sleep and breathe football. Caleb played T-ball in the Spring, but Ryan just couldn't seem to get into it. I did not expect Ryan to be so enthusiastic about the whole football thing this early. These boys have planned and plotted everything football for two weeks.
On Saturday, Caleb was fully dressed in pads and practice jersey. Ryan was thrilled at dressing him in everything for the first time.
Life has been all about helmets, pads, cleats, and mouth guards. Ryan carefully weighed all the pro's and con's of each thing.
These coaches are no joke. Caleb is playing on a 5 and 6 year old team and they practiced over six hours last week. The coaches don't put up with anything. If those kids don't listen, they're running. For some reason, I thought the beginning wouldn't be so fierce. In my mind I still have an almost five year old little boy and then I see these coaches treating him like he's in high school football. Very hard to reconcile in my mind.
The biggest surprise? Caleb does really well with the whole tough love thing. He hangs right in there and keeps pushing. I totally didn't expect that from him. I figured I'd be coaxing him back onto the field the entire time. Nope, he totally left me behind to play rough. It's hard for me to see him tackling other kids. I'm almost freaking out, but then I realize he's holding his own and loves it.
This child is crazy about football and I can't wait to see him play his first game!
