Past and Present Collide

Caleb's football jamboree was this weekend. He actually got to play on my old college's football field for the first time! Sometimes I can't believe I graduated over eight years ago and I now have an almost five year old playing on that field. It feels like some days he shouldn't be as old as he is.

I was one proud and excited mom! He just seems so little to me still and I can't believe he's actually learning to play football now.

At least with his shoulder pads on he can carry his whole last name!

He looked so little standing out on the field. He wanted to know where my classroom was and it's pretty hard to explain how big a college campus is to him right now.

I just love seeing him lined up with his teammates and one of the coaches.

We spent the rest of the day playing around and snuggled up in the recliner. Football must have really worn him out! He fell asleep next to me and slept for a couple of hours, ate dinner and then went to bed!

Why Zumba® Class?

I think it's hard to explain to people who have never tried a Zumba® class why I love it so much. I believe that your workouts should be enjoyable and reflect your personality. If your workout doesn't "fit" you, chances are you won't continue it for very long. Why burn calories and be miserable when you can have fun doing it?

Some of us are loners. We prefer running solo or maybe lifting at home. Some of us are shy and choose to workout in the comfort of our own homes. Then there are those of us who are social...

I totally fall into that category!

Being around a group of supportive, encouraging ladies each week does more for me than anything I've tried alone. It's not just what I'm doing in class, it's who I'm doing it with. That's the key! They notice if I'm not there or have been slacking off!

I walked into my first Zumba® class and stood in the very back corner. From the beginning I enjoyed the workout. It fit my personality and my ability level. I didn't have to be in the best shape or be the best dancer in the world to have fun with it. I loved the music and I could determine the intensity of my workout.

Along the way, I got emotionally attached. Not to just the workout, but the people. As I started making friends, my confidence level grew. I moved up row by row slowly until I found myself on that front row. For a shy girl, that was a big move. But something else grew as well.... my fitness level. It was much more challenging to workout from the front. I pushed harder.

If I hadn't found the confidence to do that, I would never have pushed myself up there. And it was all because of the support I found in the group. We laugh together, we pray together, and we workout together. There's something powerful in that. I don't just teach these ladies, I am friends with them. And I am blessed because of it!

If I didn't have these ladies in my life, I probably wouldn't have become an instructor. I was fine doing my own thing from the front row. When our group found out we were losing an instructor, I stepped forward and volunteered to help out. I got licensed and I now find myself teaching three hours a week. I wouldn't have done it without my girls. They inspire me and I love having them in my life!

If you've never tried working out with a group, I'd definitely suggest it. Find something you love and see where it goes from there!

Oops....

Where has this week gone?

Every time I sit down in the evenings to write, I get totally side tracked! We've played out on the boats, worked like crazy, danced around, and relaxed a little. Plus college football started this week, so that's the only thing on in my house for a while...

Caleb helped tow his daddy on the wakeboard this week. And Ryan survived...

I booked our family vacation for this year. We weren't planning on going anywhere special, but my brother suggested we all take the kids to the beach for a few days. I just couldn't pass up seeing all three kids on the beach together. My brother and I haven't gone on vacation together in over seven years. I just love that we are in the stage of life that we can have our families on vacation together. I feel so blessed.

I finished teaching my back to back Zumba® classes this week and walked out to a sweet surprise... My boys showed up to take me on a "date"! I love that they were sitting outside waiting for me and it totally made my day!

My husband is the sweetest thing to me. I am so fortunate to be married to him!

Weekend Wrap Up

Caleb had his first football scrimmage game on Saturday. At 8:15 in the morning, he ran onto the football field for the first time. I never thought I'd say it, but there is such a thing as too early for football. Ha!

I'm finding it tough to get into the football spirit when it's 91 degrees outside by 10 am. I think I'll be much more into it when the weather cools off a bit!

Of course we had to have snowcones for all of that hard work!

We went to the boat to get cooled off for the afternoon and ended up running into storms. We tried to wait it out on the boat, but then decided to just head back home instead.

Ryan finally asked me if I was done with the blonde hair yet! I decided to stop rebelling against my natural color....

And it's almost like saying goodbye to summer. Sigh.... I do like my hair better this way though.

Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit : Days 2 and 3

Days two and three of the Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit were soooo much better! I woke up on day two just knowing that I was going to be okay. Ha!

I have to admit on day four, I dove right back into my coffee. That's just one thing I don't wanna give up. It was possibly the best coffee I'd had in a really long time!

So? How do I feel?

I'm not as energetic as I normally am. I get my adrenaline rush from Zumba® classes and my Thursday night classes were a little blah. That was frustrating to me.

I like to eat. Period. My body does not function well with no protein. I burn a lot of calories working out and I think the reduction in calories for the kit was a little rough for me.

I think this would be awesome for someone that's tougher than I am. I thought I was pretty dang tough before, but this is way over my head. I want to lose weight as much as the next person, but I really missed my chicken and seafood. I'm relieved it only lasts three days. #longestdaysofmylife

Did I lose anything? Nope.

Am I okay with that? Absolutely!

If I had a significant amount of weight loss, I may have considered putting myself through that again. Now I am not tempted.

If I could order anything from Urban Remedy it would definitely be the Green Berry juice and the No Oatmeal cookies. They are absolutely amazing! I would probably try some of their other juices as well. The Zen salad was also really good, but I would pair some protein with it myself. The Spring Rolls were pretty good too.

Would I recommend Urban Remedy?

I would definitely recommend supplementing your diet with some of their delicious juices and foods. If you're looking for a cleanse and aren't burning a lot of calories teaching fitness classes, you may have better luck than I did.

Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit : Day 1

I was really pumped up to try the Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit. On day one, I woke up with an ear drum that had burst. I felt that it was coming and I had been trying to fight off being sick all week. I totally wasn't going to let another ear problem slow me down (I'm sadly used to them at this point).

I brought all of my goodies to work with me and was ready for my day. Until I smelled the coffee brewing down the hall from my office. Pure, miserable torture when my ear was hurting. I totally turn to my comfort foods and drinks when I feel rough. I was determined to stay on track and stay healthy.

I drank the Herbal Tea and it was excellent! I'm addicted to hot tea and this was actually not so bad as a substitute to my normal cup of coffee.

I had one shot of the Diet Spike in a large cup of water. My water had a kinda bitter taste but wasn't horrible. I read somewhere that you could drink it in water, juice or just take it as a shot.

I also had a Green Berry juice to start my day. It was almost sweet, but wasn't really. The mixture seemed really watery and I was praying it would hold me over until my first snack. And that's where my problem began. I started thinking about the next time I could eat and I made myself so hungry.

I chugged water all day in an effort to make things better. I pushed hard until 10:00 am and then I decided to have my snack.

I ate the No Oatmeal Cookies and oh my wow.... They are delicious! Simple ingredients but huge flavor. I was thinking the whole time, "Why can't I just eat these all day long????"

I also had the Time Machine juice. It had cayenne in it and I could totally taste the spice. I was almost concerned that I would have heartburn from it later, but I never did.

Lucky me drank tons of water by snack time....so I discovered that my body wanted to really throw me for a loop on day one (girl problems....fabulous). So.....a hurt ear, girl issues, and hardly any food. Are you kidding me?!?

When lunch rolled around, I was feeling pretty blah. I watched my coworker and my husband eat huge lunches. I stuck with my Spring Rolls (which actually tasted pretty good). I was starving so I added some watermelon to my lunch with the Herbal Tea and Diet Spike. I decided to just shoot the Diet Spike this time around. Oh my Heavens! It is disgusting! I can shoot whiskey and tequila easier than that mess! I'm totally not doing that anymore.... It's fine in a big glass of water.

When I got to my second snack, I was still pretty hungry. My blood sugar dipped off and on all afternoon, but I tried to remind myself that I was asking a lot out of my body (the trifecta of misery....). The apple that was sent in the box was sooooo good. I'm not sure where Urban Remedy buys their organic apples but they are worth every penny! It was probably the best tasting apple I've ever had. I followed it up with Herbal Tea and Diet Spike (in water).

When we left work, got Caleb fed, and sent him to Cubbies, Ryan took one look at me and said, "You're eating. That's it. This is crazy." I felt like I was going to pass out. I'm not sure if it was my equilibrium and my ear, but I was feeling pretty rough. I finally caved in and cried in the car. I feel like I'm pretty dang tough and disciplined, but this day completely kicked my butt.

We drove to Krystal and got me a large bowl of chili and two Krystals. And I scarfed it down. When I got home, I curled up in my recliner and just passed out.

I woke up the next day expecting a large gain considering everything I went through. I was just up a pound. So I am okay with that. I decided to tackle day two a little better and hang in there....

And that is exactly how I, my family, my friends, and the entire world knows I could never be anorexic.

Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit : Starting Point

Holistic Healing Diet Be a Healtier You by Urban Remedy

I think I've struggled lately with being so busy and having so much going on around me. It's tough working 50+ hours a week, having a family, trying to be a great friend to others, running a household, writing,  and teaching Zumba® classes. There are brief moments that I sit still and take a moment to just breathe. But in all honesty, it isn't happening much. I want to be a super star at work, a fabulous wife, a kick butt football mom, have home cooked meals and a spotless house, and learn 10 new Zumba® songs a week. For the first time in my entire life I am realizing that I can't be it all. I simply can't do it all. I'm stepping back this week, taking off all the pressure I put on myself, and reorganizing my priorities. I am focusing on chilling out this week.

While I do that, this cleanse is a perfect way to just reset what's going on in my body. I want to come out renewed and refreshed. Before I began the Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit, I took measurements and photos. Now we have a starting point to see progress. So, here we go....

My starting weight for this is 149.8. Yep, I've gained some. It's so frustrating most days. I do realize that I'm working on my muscles and I've lost a little in some areas and gained in others. Stuff seems to be just kinda shifting around.

My starting measurements:

Bust: 36"
Waist: 27.5"
Abdomen: 33"
Hips: 37.25"
Right Leg-Upper: 21.5"
Right Leg - Lower: 16.5"
Left Leg - Upper: 21.5"
Left Leg - Lower: 16.25"
Right Calf: 15"
Left Calf: 15.25"
Right Arm: 11"
Left Arm: 11"

Pants Size: 6

When I search for results from this Metabolism Kit, no one really puts a number out there. You can't tell if something works or not if you don't measure and document it! So that's my goal for this week. I want to know if this works, if it's worth the money, and if it lasts.

Urban Remedy Metabolism Kit Review : Prepping for the Kit

I'm partnering with Urban Remedy to review their Metabolism Kit. If you've been around here a bit, you know how I'm struggling to reach my final weight loss goal. I took a month-long break from my efforts this past July and now it's time to get tough and finish strong. The amazingly sweet people over at Urban Remedy wanted to help me out and sent me their Metabolism Kit to hopefully put me on the right track.

I received my overnighted kit in the mail. Everything was packaged well and ice packs surrounded everything. I have enough for three days. The kit includes Green Berry Juice, Time Machine juice, Glow juice, Diet Spike, No Oatmeal Cookies, Tea, Spring Rolls, Apples, and Zen Salads.

I like the whole concept of everything being planned out for me. I don't even have to run to the store for apples. They sent everything I need for the entire process. Simple, easy, and effective... I like that!

I love that it is USDA Organic. I want to treat my body right and Urban Remedy fully agrees with me!

I was told to eat clean for three days prior to the cleanse. I've already started cleaning up my eating before that, so it wasn't too tough! The only problem I had was not wanting to give up my coffee.

I am actually a little scared, but extremely hopeful. Y'all, I like to eat and this seems very strict to me. I'm also super irritable if I don't eat. I want it to work and I am willing to work at it if it will actually help me get restarted. If it does, it will be worth its weight in gold to me.

For the next few days I'm going to track everything....weight, measurements, pictures, physical changes, and mental stability! So...Let's see what happens!

Not Giving Up

We aren't ready for the end of summer! I think we're the kind of family who would enjoy 80+ degree days year round. The days are sadly getting shorter and you can almost smell Fall in the air this week. But we aren't ready to give up just yet!

Ryan, Caleb and I spent an evening on the boat with Ryan's best friend and his family. They have a little girl a few months younger than Caleb. He was so excited to go boating with them!

I refused to jump in because it was getting chilly. Ryan and Caleb had no problem with that! I was wrapped up in a towel while they played...

My child is one of those who tries to top the last thing he did. I can see this eventually becoming a problem. He's an adrenaline junkie like his dad.

Flips off the sides have become a regular event. It always looks like he's doing it in slow motion. Kinda funny....

We wanna hang onto our boating weekends!!!

Motivation Monday #linkup

Things have been hectic around here! I've been teaching Zumba® classes three days a week and it's definitely working my body. I absolutely love it because it doesn't feel like a workout to me. I never imagined burning calories could actually be fun. Who knew?!?

I've been slowly peeling off the extra pounds I put on during the time my stepkids were with us. I had a blast being free and busy while they were here, but my body didn't like the junk I fed it at all!

Getting back on track can be kinda tough, but I feel so much better when I take care of my body. I think the struggle is mostly mental when it all comes down to it. The cravings were all in my head. When I caved and ate the junk, my body paid for it. I was sluggish and miserable. It's amazing the difference....

I know there are going to be times that I slack. But as long as I get right back on track, everything is fine! You can't be strict on yourself one hundred percent of the time. It's not realistic. I have realized over the past two and a half years that I am creating a lifestyle that I don't mind having for the rest of my life. I'm not the type of person who can eat everything I want without gaining a lot of weight. I'm not the type of person who can give up physical activity. It makes me a better, happier person and I don't want to lose that.

How is your weight loss changing you?

Ribs, Football, and Riding

This weekend felt like we got a lot accomplished. My Type A, OCD personality loves that! Cleaning, organizing, and getting stuff done is actually relaxing to me. On Friday, I cut the grass while Ryan grilled our dinner. We had a slab of ribs and it was fabulous!

After I got the yard presentable, we sat on the porch and enjoyed dinner.

I took Caleb to an early morning football practice on Saturday. This is my equivalent of down time. Fitness magazines, coffee, and cheering on my boy!

Caleb finally got his football position (and we aren't the least surprised).... He's a linebacker! I think we called that from the time he was two years old. His pediatrician, grandfather, and dad all lovingly joked that Caleb would be our little linebacker because of his size and muscle strength. He lived up to that perfectly!

I've been watching him practice six hours a week for the past two weeks and the progress is amazing. I'm nervously watching from the sidelines as he takes down kids that are bigger than he is and he jumps up wanting more. I've never seen him so fired up about something and it's fun to see him finding his personality in this sport.

I was so proud to watch him excel in his position and I am getting so excited about his first games!

We met up with Ryan at the boat. We scrubbed the boat and detailed her so Ryan could apply Poli Glow to our Chris Craft. She was very oxidized when we got her. So far, the Poli Glow is absolutely amazing! We'd heard pretty good things about it and it does the trick!

She went from "blah" to "shiny"!

After Ryan wore himself out, we decided to take a ride and found some peaceful back roads in the Jeep.

We have some beautiful places right around us and it was nice to take the time to appreciate it.
