Home Reno : The Beginning

We are in renovation mode! With the estate sale behind us, we are now able to move forward. It's been a long time since I have been so excited for a renovation filled with hard work. Waking up each morning at the new house has been so peaceful and happy. I can't even begin to describe the difference. We're living out of boxes (if you know me in real life, excuse the repeated outfits) but we are content. I have

We cleared all of the tables out of the dining room. We had a lot of the sale items set up in this room so it was exciting to see a big, open space finally. This room was previously used as a living room. It's right next to the kitchen so I will make it our dining room.

This little guy is so much like his daddy. Ryan and Caleb are naturally good with animals. I think animals can just sense something in them. He comes running up with a frog and I thought it was dead. Turns out the frog was just content with Caleb. Who would have ever thought?!?

One of my favorite pieces that I want to use at the new house is this canvas. I have walked by this same canvas in our church for months. I kept mentioning how much I loved it and wanted one just like it to Ryan. One day one of my friend's pictures popped up on Facebook and in her home was this exact picture. She steered me in the right direction and I finally found it! Best news? It was on sale too!

We also cleared the living room. This will be the first area that is prepped for hardwood flooring. Ryan began removing the carpet.

Pulling it up wasn't too bad at all. I actually wouldn't know because I watched. He definitely made it look simple though.

We ordered Caleb and Bryce's bedding this week as well. It's neutral enough to go with anything, but it has subtle colors of red, blue and green running through it. I love that it is machine washable! I have a feeling that is going to be super important....

I have had so many questions about Whole 30 and I definitely want to steer you in the right direction. I know many of you are ready to give it a try or may already be doing it with me. I have purchased a couple of books to help me out along the way and I wanted to share that information with you as well.

Neighbors and Fire

This weekend was our big working weekend at the new house. We had an estate sale to re-home some of the beautiful antiques from Ryan's family. Even though it has been hard work, I enjoyed it. I love walking through antique stores and it's neat to see the quality and workmanship that went into those items.

Ryan and I had a date night on Friday since my parents kept Caleb for us. We didn't realize how long it had been since we've had a night just to ourselves. We have been so busy tackling life that it really feels more like it has tackled us!

We were up at 6 am to begin getting ready for the sale. I'm pretty sure the only other time I have been around my in-laws at 7:00 in the morning was when I spent the night in the hospital in labor.

We had traffic on and off all day and did pretty well for hosting the estate sale ourselves. Typically people charge up to 40% to have an estate sale so we saved money by doing it ourselves. Definitely worth the hard work and effort.

We met several of our neighbors along the way and everyone was so sweet. Ryan and I haven't lived in a social area since we were neighbors as kids. It's so nice to know that we have friendly faces all around us. The sweetest part about moving has been the people right next door to us. Ryan's grandparents' best friends live right next door. When we moved in, I really didn't know how they'd take to my active little boy. My child has absolutely fallen in love with both of them and they are just so good to him. We couldn't ask for better people right next door.

We purchased this little fire pit over a year ago. When we first decided to move, we knew we wanted one for the new house. We have been patiently waiting for the time to use it. It was so peaceful sitting on the patio enjoying a fire after an exhausting day.

There's nothing like our conversations around the fire. Ryan and I talk about everything... from all the chaos going on around us to the little boy sleeping peacefully inside....We are blessed with an easy going friendship. I realize a lot of marriages around us aren't based on friendship. Ryan and I began our life together as friends and I am thankful it remains through every stage of our marriage.

Random Friday

I shared this weight loss comparison on Instagram and Facebook this week. Sometimes it is so easy to get bogged down with small progress updates that I lose sight of the bigger picture.

This little guy has been so funny this week. We've spent a lot of time talking about life in general and his ideas about things keep me laughing. His obsession with nature shows and DIY network have been so entertaining.

We took a break to have dinner with our family this week. I got to see my great-uncle, my aunts and uncles, my cousin and parents. It was so nice to put everything on hold to spend time with them. It feels like we don't do it often enough.

From the moment Ryan and I knew we were moving, I dreamed of sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee in the mornings. This week I finally got the chance to do that. It was so peaceful. I had a sleeping little boy in the house, a husband sitting beside me, and a beautiful spring morning. I felt so relaxed and calm. It's honestly the first time I have felt peace in weeks. We have been so busy and I just needed a few moments to fully enjoy these blessings in our life.

I took Caleb to the doctor this week to have a wart frozen. You would not believe the fuss this child made over something so simple! I had to talk him through things, but once it actually started he was fine. Go figure...

I found a couple of things for the house and I am so excited. I wanted to bring in some color to the outdoor areas and I found a cute mat for the front porch. And I bought it....

Caleb and I walked through Target. While he found a million things he wanted, I found a simple carafe that will match my colors in the kitchen just right. Bring on the fresh lemonade!

I know there are terrible updates this week. I haven't eaten perfectly this week, but I promise to buckle down and share some recipes with you next week. I've gotta get back on track.... My life is all kinds of chaos right now, but we are working through everything. Have a fabulous weekend!

Projects and Baseball

We had tons of projects around the houses this weekend. For what it's worth, I'm really drained by the term "houses". I'd much rather just say "house". We're getting one ready for the real estate market and one ready for us to live in. It's quite exhausting, but I do have a plan... When I broke out a two page to-do list my husband rolled his eyes and said in his most reassuring voice, "We will get it all done. Stop worrying." I actually hear that a lot... and he's usually right (he won't read that so he will never know I admitted it).

Ryan set me up to pressure wash Caleb's playset while he cut grass. It was a dirty, nasty job but I tackled it. I thought I would be sore afterwards, but the toning classes before our Zumba® fitness class must be working! I was covered in dirt, mud, and yuck, but everything looks great and is ready for stain.

Some little boy begged to pressure wash. Caleb wants to work so bad he cannot stand it. Instead of cartoons, the child watches DIY network. He's our little worker bee and is content with it. I love that he already has a sense of hard work ingrained in his personality. It's a rare asset that will be handy one day. I don't think anyone could ever argue that he learned it from his daddy. I've watched my husband work in the summer heat six days a week for years for our family.

We made friendship bracelets this week and I've had to wear mine ever since. He notices immediately when it's missing.

Pink Pig Printing sent me this very appropriate baseball shirt! It's customized with Caleb's number and says, "I have no life. My son plays baseball." On those days that we have back to back games, it sure feels that way! You can find them {HERE}!

While Caleb was playing, my sister-in-law had both of her kiddos at the fields. My niece had softball team pictures so I got to hold my little nephew while Caleb played ball. He looks identical to my younger brother as a baby. He's a serious baby and you really have to work for the smiles from him but it's totally worth it!

And of course I got to hug my absolute favorite girl in the world! My brother promises she gets her dramatic streak and flair from her Aunt Wendy. I honestly have no idea why he thinks that....Ha! Bless her little heart!

Caleb's ball team played their little hearts out Saturday! We were all so proud of them. They brought down the only undefeated 5/6 year old team in our group. Our kids were on fire! Caleb had two stikes against him and the coach wanted him to hit off the tee since the bases were loaded. Caleb must have told him no because the coach pitched the ball and he smacked it! I was one proud mama for him not taking the easy way out and having the confidence in himself to pull it off! Now if I could only keep him out of the mud....

After a long weekend, Caleb snuggled up with his daddy for movie night. I am so thankful they are close!

I know we are in one of those busy, chaotic periods of life right now. It seems like there are so many days that we just have too much on our plates. We know it's temporary and that the end result will be so very worth it. Getting there is the tough part. I wouldn't want to go through life with anyone else. This guy is the one picking me up and carrying me through the tough parts. He's always there telling me everything will all work out even when my to-do list is two pages long. We work hard, but we work together. If you've got someone in your life that's just like them, take a moment to tell them how much you appreciate them!

All About That Bass

I wanted to do a quick update on Whole 30. I think this may be the least I've actually thought about food and still lost weight. I like knowing that I can eat whatever and it works. There's really nothing complicated about Whole 30 once you get the hang of it. I eat lean meats, veggies, fruits, and potatoes. I do not count calories and it's working well for me. I end up not feeling restricted and I still feel satisfied. I don't know of any other eating plan or diet that allows this kind of freedom.

I can definitely tell a difference in the way I feel when I eat well. My body functions much better and I have the energy to tackle my busy life now. I don't know how I would accomplish all that I do in a day if I wasn't eating better.

I know I cannot physically show you how much better I feel, but I can show you progress. My body is really changing! I had no idea it was so drastic until I started comparing. The picture below on the left was taken on February 17, 2015. The picture on the right was taken yesterday on April 15, 2015. So we roughly have a two month comparison. My hips and legs are really changing!

I also compared March 31, 2015, to now and still noticed a difference!

#whole30, #progress, #weightloss, #eatclean, Whole 30, Weight Loss, #results

All of that is without counting calories. I'm just eating real food! Dinner last night was smoked turkey sausage, a baked potato, and a salad. It didn't take a whole lot of effort, but it was a great dinner. We are using our grill so much more now and the food has so much flavor! Throw meat and veggies on the grill and you've got an awesome meal.

New Finds For The New Home

I've made a few home purchases lately that I am so excited about. I've got a certain look in my mind and I'm slowly working towards it. Ryan and I agree that we love the look and feel of a country home. We enjoy simple, crisp, clean details with a balance between older country and modern touches. It took us a while to figure all of that out! I love a country kitchen with modern appliances. There's a very delicate balance between the two, but I think it looks fabulous when it's pulled off properly.

Every single decision we have made for the new home has been weighed and thought out carefully. Instead of jumping at the first thing we like, we sit back and wait. We think on the details for weeks until we decide what we really want and what will function best for our family.

I actually decided on my bedding months ago. I knew from the beginning that I wanted a simple, white quilt for our master bedroom. Nothing over the top and something that could be washed often. I wanted to be able to use bleach as needed to keep it looking nice and clean. My family is rough on just about everything, but I wanted our master bedroom to be our retreat after a long day. I want it to feel calm, clean, and simply beautiful. I am OCD and I can relax when everything is clean and in order.

I finally found the right bedding on sale this week! I had a gift card that I used, it was on sale, I used a discount code, and received free shipping. You can't beat that! Normally, this bedding is $139.99 and I paid $34.99. You can find it {HERE}. I also bought the matching shams. I like that I can add in decorative throw pillows to match the seasons and holidays. It has so much versatility and I believe it will work well for us.

I also purchased my white dishes. Since I post recipes for y'all and food really photographs well on white dishes, I knew that these had just enough detail without going overboard. I cannot wait to try some new recipes for y'all on these new dishes. Even if you're not a food blogger, white dishes are a must have for entertainment purposes. White serving dishes give everything a simple elegance at any meal. If you have friends or family over, showcase your food without overwhelming with patterned dishes.

With all of the money I saved, I bought new towels as well. I again wanted something that I could bleach from time to time. I have dirty guys in my house and they are really rough on lighter colored towels. I can keep these looking better longer since they are white. I can still bring in pops of color in the bathrooms with colored hand towels. But our every day items need to be something I can clean better! You can find these on sale {HERE}. They are normally $9.99 each!

I want simple neutral colors throughout our home so that I can bring in colorful accents and switch them out year round. I don't want to be tied to just one or two colors throughout the home. I want the flexibility to switch things up.

How often do you shop for new linens and bedding? What colors work best for you and your family?
