Levi Turns One

My nephew turned one last week and we celebrated his birthday with him this weekend. You absolutely have to work for every smile, but he's just the cutest little thing!

Caleb and Zoey had a blast playing together. I have such a tough time getting them to stand still long enough for a decent picture.

I'm fairly sure Levi's current favorite food is chocolate cake. He absolutely loved it! (It's one of my favorites too.....)

Caleb says that he doesn't like babies except for Levi. I'm hoping they will grow up and be great friends one day.

The night ended with a sleepy baby boy falling asleep in my arms. He partied himself out! It made me think of the hours I spent rocking him in the hospital right after he was born. He's as sweet and precious now as he was then. I am so thankful to be his aunt.

She's A Social Butterfly

I took a two week break from Zumba® class while we got the house ready for floors. I was beyond tired and exhausted and I really needed a chance to get caught up. Without hesitation, Julia agreed that I should take a break. We texted off and on through the break and I just really started to miss her (and all of the Zumba® girls). We wanted to have fun on our first night back together and declared it Twisted Sister Night! I picked my favorite songs from her playlist and she picked her favorites from mine. I didn't realize it, but it gave us one crazy tough workout! I love every single one of her butt kicking, high energy songs. I began regretting my choices towards the end....Ha! Two weeks of no workouts combined with her toughest songs....What was I thinking?!?

The people from Awesome Best Friends T's sent us two shirts to wear for our Zumba® classes. We co-teach together and these two shirts describe us perfectly! Julia is wide open, honest, and has no fear while I absolutely hate talking in front of a group of people. My husband tells me that I definitely need a friend like Julia in my life to make me bolder. Julia was so encouraging from the very beginning. She got me hooked on Zumba® fitness and helped me so much as a new instructor. We laugh together, vent together, and workout together. You just can't ask for a better friend. I am blessed to have her in my life.

We got several laughs before class with our Social Butterfly/Awkward shirts! Awesome Best Friends T's custom made these in purple and pink for us and they turned out so adorable. I think we have our eyes on a couple of others next.

Find these {HERE}!

We love these for sure! They would be too cute in pink!

Happy Birthday, Ryan!

How do you even begin to tell your best friend how special they are? How do you tell the world how blessed you are to marry the love of your life? Today is my husband's birthday and I want to take a moment to tell y'all just how amazing that man is.

Ryan was my childhood crush. Later on, he stepped back into my life and redirected it completely. We grew up together and forged this wonderful relationship. Everyone jokes that I turned his life around and straightened him out, but what they don't realize is that he did the same exact thing for me. The people who know and love me most all agree that I am bossy, strong willed, independent, and stubborn. Not just any person would be cut out to balance all of that out, but Ryan is just as independent and stubborn as I am. I don't think anyone could love me the way he does.

There's never been a time that he hasn't been there for me, encouraging me, backing me up, and loving me through whatever comes our way. We don't have a fairy tale marriage because they simply do not exist. What we have we worked hard and struggled for. It was tough at times, but was worth every effort we put into it. I am so blessed to have him as my husband and Caleb's daddy. He's an amazing dad to all three of his kids and I love seeing their relationships grow.

Ryan, you are the most amazing thing to ever walk into my life. I think of the blonde haired boy standing under a tree in the neighbor's yard not even noticing the little girl with the huge crush on him. I think of the times you did ridiculous stunts on your rollerblades and bike and I realize your children get that from you. I remember cleaning boats together and working together when the roles reversed and you had the crush on me. I never even realized it until you kissed me for the first time. I think of drive-in movies, bowling, and a little red convertible. I think of air mattresses on the floor for our first few nights when we started living together. I think of a beautiful wedding on a 70' Bluewater. Campfires on our honeymoon. Holidays. Finding out we were going to have a little one. You figuring out that I needed to be fed on a schedule while pregnant or I get mean. You holding me up for my epidural. Reassuring me that you would still love me with a C-Section scar. You walking in the door after working all day to take care of Caleb for a few hours so I could sleep. Every single sweet moment you've had with Caleb. You working hard to update our old home and get it ready to sell. You giving me the home and life of my dreams. You taking care of me every time I've been sick or sad. Laughing on the back patio. Boat days. Renovation projects. And everything in between. Ryan, you are wonderful to me and I love you. Happy birthday!

Pool Days

Happy Memorial Day, y'all! I hope you're enjoying time with friends and family over the holiday weekend. This is the beginning of our favorite time of year. Bring on the boating, swimming, and warm weather!

Caleb learned to swim last year and he took off this weekend like he's been swimming all of his life. I have to admit that he's already a much better swimmer than I am.

We celebrated my husband's birthday with his family a little early this week. I am so proud of the man he is today.

No pool day would be complete without Caleb's daredevil stunts. I'm not sure why he feels the need to jump from everything, but it must be a boy thing. It's probably why he has so many bruises on his arms and legs....

This is my favorite time of year. There's something so peaceful about the smell of dinner cooking on the grill, a little boy playing outside, a husband kicked back in a chair, and the sun shining down. You can have a million crazy thing going on around you, but for those moments there's just peace and happiness.

Weekend Wrap Up

We had a busy, fun filled weekend finally! Ryan and I decided that we were absolutely not going to work on projects all weekend. We are almost to the point of exhaustion and are getting pretty burnt out at this point. Home renovations are draining, but we are seeing some big changes now. If you're new around here, we just wrapped up a massive overhaul at our old home and listed it to sell. Then we rolled right into another renovation at our new home. You can read all about it {HERE} and {HERE}.

This guy was excited to get our weekend started!

Friday evening we rested quite a bit. I started to paint, but was just so aggravated that Ryan took the paintbrush away and cooked me a steak. That's my kinda man! Saturday morning I woke up refreshed and ready to tackle the day. I will show you our progress this week....and it's huge!! I love it and couldn't be happier.

Saturday afternoon we headed to the lake. This was the first chance we've had to take our boat out this year. I have missed it so much. Ryan, Caleb and I are water people. We work and play at the lake and it's tough waiting this long to get out there.

We couldn't ask for better weather this weekend! The wind was blowing and it was gorgeous out.

Ryan brought his kayak along and cruised around.

The water was still a little chilly, but someone just didn't care. I love how fearless he is!

He's growing too fast!

Caleb enjoyed being "towed" by the kayak.

He was absolutely worn out by the time we made it back to the dock!

My Favorite Tool (And A Meal Idea)

I'm making progress all over the place at the new house. This week I painted the kitchen, dining room, living room, hallway, and three bedrooms. I am beyond exhausted, but it really hasn't been as bad as I imagined. I tried using a paint sprayer. Terrible idea. It was too heavy, splattered everywhere and made a huge mess!

I asked Ryan to grab my E-Z Twist Paint Stick and I set out to roll the entire house. You can buy one {HERE}. I'm going to be honest here, I will absolutely not paint anything else without this thing. It has been my number one painting item throughout getting the old house prepped to sell and this new home renovation. Best tool ever.

I can paint an 8 x 8 wall in about a minute. I painted the first coat throughout in about three hours. My arms were sore, but I figure it's a great workout. I have one more coat to go and I'm ready to knock it out! My arms should look more toned after this!

HomeRight EZ-Twist Roller

I used my pressure cooker to cook pork chops and carrots. I added some organic chicken stock to the pressure cooker, some garlic and pepper. I cooked it for 30 minutes and got an easy, flavorful dinner. I baked a bunch of potatoes earlier in the week so I just reheated them.

I actually had seconds because this meal was so good! Prepping my baked potatoes has saved me a lot of time this week. I just washed about 20 of them, rubbed some olive oil and salt on them, wrapped them aluminum foil and baked them.

Right now I don't have tons of time to cook, but I don't want to sacrifice my healthy eating. The crockpot and pressure cooker are my best friends right now. You can make this same meal in your crockpot. Just throw everything in on low.

Renovation Progress

Home projects at the new house are coming along nicely this week. Our lives are consumed with this renovation because that's literally all we have to do there. No recliners, no cable, nothing. The simple life has actually been kind of nice. Caleb hasn't had his hoards of toys in his room. And guess what? He's having a blast! It certainly hasn't killed him to do without those things and if anything I believe he has thrived during this stage of our lives. Ryan, on the other hand, is struggling without cable. He hasn't died yet so we'll keep pushing on.

I cut in around all of the crown molding throughout the house. My next step is rolling every single wall. Fun times, but big progress!

These two have been hard at work. Caleb has really enjoyed helping out and I know these will be some great memories when he's older.

There was a second sub floor glued down on top of the original sub floor in the kitchen. That all had to come up when prepping for the new hardwood floors. It has been rough! It only comes up in pieces and the floor is extremely sticky. Fabulous.... We've spent a lot of time with a pry bar and a hammer.

We have our light installation, floor installation, and wall painting left. We are slowly but surely knocking it out. It's a tedious process and my husband is very meticulous. He demands perfection throughout the process and I am sure everything will look just like we wanted once we're done.

Whole 30 Squash and An Easy Meal Idea

I finally got to cook in my new kitchen this week and it felt like Heaven! It wasn't an elaborate meal because we are still deep in the home renovation. I'm searching for quick and easy meals and this was definitely one of them. I mentioned yesterday that I would share recipes this week.

#whole30, #sidedish, #weightloss, #recipe, Whole 30, Side Dish, Recipe, Weight Loss

Our local produce store offers Amish sausage and it has quickly become a family favorite. The taste is just so much better than anything store bought. I use this in several recipes and it is fabulous grilled. I sliced mine for this meal and cooked it on the stove.

I simply cut three large yellow squash and half of one onion, dumped it in my Pyrex, added two cups of water, and covered it. I cooked it in the microwave on high for 18 minutes. I added a little salt and pepper after it was finished cooking. I made my husband and son a little coleslaw to go with it. I actually like the coleslaw mix plain so I ate mine that way.

This meal is super quick, Whole 30 approved, affordable, and easy. Can you actually believe you get to eat meals like this without counting calories, macros or anything and still lose weight?!? It doesn't get any better than that!

Patiently Waiting

Five year old little boys don't have a lot of patience! I've noticed that Caleb is beginning to learn restraint at times. Last week I was sitting on the patio watching the guys work in the yard and I finally saw a glimpse of his patience showing through.

Ryan wanted to cut down a ragged looking bush. Since there was a chain saw involved, Caleb was beyond excited. He ran to grab his and stood back waiting for his chance to help.

His little face was adorable to watch. He thinks his daddy is the coolest person ever....when they aren't butting heads!

I'm not really sure what he was doing in this picture, but his face is so funny!

And finally it was his turn....

Caleb is so content working. I've really never seen a child that young want to work so much. And the most surprising thing is that he's pretty helpful while doing so. Win-win for us!
